Half of UK’s Caravan Thefts by Imprisoned Wiltshire Gang

By

These are the gang members from  Wiltshire, all of which had previous convictions for Caravan Theft, who were responsible for more than £700,000 worth of caravan thefts between 2004 and 2007.

This gang of travellers stole thousands of caravans and are thought to be responsible for half the caravan thefts in the UK at that time. Since their arrest and conviction, the insurance industry reported a 47% drop in claims.

All the men Charlie Ward (28) – Martin Ward (21) – John McDonagh (31) and Martin McDonagh (29 received prison sentences of between 4 and five years. The trial lasted for 3 months, the gang all having previous convictions.

The assets of the gang will now be confiscated, and the cost to the tax payer was also extensive with 19 police forces being involved in this operation to catch these men.

good news they were caught ,but to give them only 5 years after all that cost to catch them ,I must ask the police what is the point, the police bill proberbly outstretched the cost of replacing the caravans, money for nothing me thinks.

Yes I agree, the cost, or should I say the burden on the Tax Payers of this country are immence.
But surely it is money well spent in knowing that at least for the next five years, caravan thefts will be reduced by a factor of 47% and as a result the frustration and upset that must go along with having your prized posession stolen, also reduced ! . . . . . .

Don’t blame the cops they do there jobs , but the courts then come allong and mess it up by giveing out short time for crime.
well as they say if you can’t do time don’t do the crime, i wonder if they did not make more money than the 700,000 they were caught for .
